Most gardens are only truly appreciated when it’s daylight. Although using deck rail planters to plant colorful plants make the garden beautiful, it can be hard to appreciate the beauty when it gets dark. If you love to spend your evenings outdoors, a moonlit garden can help you create an enjoyable outdoor space that’s just as beautiful at night as in sunlight. Below, we’ve outlined three plants with little sun requirement that can help you create a moonlit garden.

Fountain Grass

This is also known as Pennisetum Skyrocket and is an excellent choice for deck rail planters. It comes with thin blades of grass with white margins. Fountain grass can grow up to 2 feet tall, but it’s not as big as most annual grasses. Although it requires full sun, it doesn’t require regular watering, making it great for your moonlit garden.

Petunia

Another great plant to add to your moonlit garden is a petunia. It is the best-selling plant in the summer because of its easy care. Petunias also tend to bloom nonstop from spring to frost. There are different varieties of petunia available. While some have a mounding habit, others tend to spread. Therefore, you should choose the best option for your deck rail planters.

Gardenia

Add gardenia if you want your moonlit garden to have a strong, sweet fragrance. Gardenia is usually considered a diva because it has irregular growing conditions. Despite the stress of growing, you would be rewarded with gorgeous, sweet-smelling flowers when it grows out.

Brugmansia

This large white-flowered plant would be perfect in your moonlit garden. It comes with a heavenly scent and only makes an appearance in the evening, making it great for a moonlit garden. Although most people prefer to grow Brugmansia indoors, growing it in deck rail planters makes it much easier.
