Where Do Washington, D.C. Workers Like to Live?

If you are relocated to the Washington D.C. area, and your new job is right in the heart of the District, you are probably wondering where it is best or most convenient to live. Is it better to live right in D.C. and be super near to your work?

Or is it better to live outside the hustle and bustle of the city and commute in? Either way, there are so many options when it comes to living in and around Washington D.C. Consider these places here Washington D.C. workers like to live:

Washington D.C.

The first, and most obvious, option is to live right in the heart of the capital itself. If you decide to live right in D.C., you will be close to work, making your commute more reasonable. You will also be right in the middle of the action, with plenty to do after work and on the weekends.

However, there are a few cons to living in Washington D.C. that you should consider. First, there is a lot of traffic, which may or may not affect your commute. Also, the cost-of-living, including housing, is very high. If these factors sway you towards living outside of D.C., the following are some great options to consider.

Arlington, Virginia

Arlington is a great option to consider if you want to be close to the capital, but not living right in the heart of the city. Arlington is located right across the Potomac River, only 5 miles away from Washington, making the commute into the city convenient. 

There is also plenty to see and do in Arlington, including Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, and many military memorials. Housing is also plentiful in Arlington, as you can tell from the myriad of Arlington real estate available.

Bethesda, Maryland

Another outstanding suburb of Washington, D.C. is Bethesda, Maryland. Bethesda is known as an affluent city with a highly educated population, perfect for workers commuting into D.C. Bethesda also offers many of the great benefits of living in a city without being right in the center of D.C. metro area.

You can head to one of Bethesda’s many exceptional restaurants, or if you are craving a sophisticated night out on the town, Bethesda has an amazing art scene. You can check out a gallery or even the ballet without having to go into the city.

If you are planning a move to Washington D.C. to begin your new job, there are plenty of options when it comes to where to live. If you don’t mind a high price tag on living expenses in exchange for the convenience and vibrance of living right in the city, you may want to plant your roots right in D.C.

Otherwise, there are many great suburbs to choose from, including Arlington, Virginia and Bethesda, Maryland. Each suburb offers something unique and provides a convenient commute into the city.
