7 TV Shows That Have Run Their Course

ByMariella G. Bishop

Jan 1, 2022
Many old televisions bundled together. A wall of old vintage tube televisions.

It has never been a greater time for television when there is tons of exciting content that have flooded the TV screens all yearlong. This is because TV shows have a way of sucking us into their captivating storylines while also enabling us to escape the bitter realities for a short period.

In the midst, though, there are a few TV shows that were exciting in the beginning; now, however, they have lost their spark. Thus, we are here to discuss some of the on-air TV shows that should have either ended or must end at the point in the story there are on now. Let’s get started:

Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is a drama set in a hospital that took off way back in 2005, and shockingly it is still powering through with its 18th season. While the show makers still see significant potential in this show, we believe otherwise.

When it started, it had all the right ingredients; the charm of Ellen Pompeo as Dr. Ellen Grey, a surgical intern of a renowned doctor, romantic encounters, and the occasional comedic bits. Now, however, when the show has written off several beloved characters and introduced various new ones, the show only feels like it is being dragged to the finish line in hopes of reaching the peak again as it once did.

The Walking Dead

This TV show that is focused on a town overrun by zombies has had its time on-screen longer than it deserves. The show premiered back in 2010 when zombies were all the hype but that hype is not as high as it used to be.

Even though the show is finally about to end with its final season in 2022, it would have been much better had it ended when it was at its peak. The show’s fall in popularity is probably because several prominent characters were killed during the show that led to the loss of interest by the fans.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Amazingly, this show from the 20th century is still struggling with its 23rd season. Aired back in 1999, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a show that focuses on a squad of NYPD detectives whose only job is to investigate crimes sexual in nature. One would think that there would be a limit to the plot ideas that the show could have, but the show has managed to tell similar stories with slight variations time and time again. It is high time though, that the show finally comes to an end.

Space Force

Many had high hopes from the Netflix original series starring the legendary Steve Carell in yet another comedic role. The plot revolves around a special branch of the armed forces known as The Space Force that is headed by General Mark R. Naird (Carell). While the show does offer some brief moments of laughter and giggles, the plot could have been way more engaging given the fact that it is rich in terms of the cast where actors like John Malkovich and Lisa Kudrow are part of the regular storyline. It was clear after the first season that the show could have offered so much more in terms of entertainment. The show is still planned to return for a second season but many have lost interest in it.

Emily in Paris

A spoiled brat from the Midwest gains the opportunity to work for a marketing firm in the fashion capital of the world. Emily Cooper (portrayed by Lily Collins) moves to Paris without having any regard for the local culture and language, and is lost in her own self and attempts to force her perspective on the locals. Her poor attempt to change the atmosphere around her is nothing short of sad. Alas! The show is set to return for a second season as well.

Westworld

The strange concept of a place where this little difference between reality and imagination was a mesmerizing sight when Westworld premiered in 2016. The three seasons of this show gave us an amazing rollercoaster of plot twists and cliffhangers.

However, the ending of season three was not something to be considered as a cliffhanger when Dolores manages to annihilate Rehoboam and the real world falls into chaos. However, when HBO announced a fourth season of the series, the fans were a little confused. The show could have ended beautifully, but the show makers thought otherwise.

The Flash

The Scarlet Speedster is a beloved DC character for millions of millennials across the globe. That is why when The Flash debuted in 2014, fans rejoiced as they would once get a chance to see The Flash (portrayed by Grant Gustin) in speedy action.

Even though Grant has done more than justice to the role in the series, the show has pulled every trick from the book like Flashpoint, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and more to tickle the fancies of the viewers. Now, it only seems like a drag and is dragging The Flash’s reputation through the mud with the upcoming 8th season.
